Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed that Jurrien Timber's injury recovery has taken an unexpected turn, with the defender set to miss another crucial match as the Gunners push for Premier League glory.

The Dutch international has been sidelined since last month with an ankle problem, and his absence will continue this weekend when Arsenal travel to face a West Ham side fighting for survival at the other end of the table. "That's been probably the most difficult thing to manage with the player, with myself as well, because we didn't expect it to take so long," Arteta admitted, adding that Timber still has "a lot to do" before he can return to action this season.

For Arsenal fans, Timber's setback is a frustrating blow. Signed in the summer with high hopes, the versatile defender was seen as a key piece in Arteta's puzzle. But injuries have disrupted his debut campaign, leaving the Gunners to rely on other options as they chase their first league title since 2004.

Timber's absence comes at a pivotal moment. Arsenal currently lead Manchester City by five points, though the Gunners have played one more game. A win at West Ham could be the decisive step toward ending their two-decade title drought. "Understanding the context of the game for both clubs, it's huge obviously," Arteta said. "So we know the importance of it, we know what we want and what we have to do to win the game."

As the season enters its final stretch, every match matters—and every player's fitness counts. For now, Arsenal will have to keep pushing without Timber, hoping their depth can carry them over the finish line. Whether the defender returns before the season ends remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: the Gunners' title charge won't wait for anyone.
