Arsenal fans, there's a glimmer of hope in the midst of a defensive crisis. Manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that injured defender Jurrien Timber has a "chance" to return for the Champions League final—a timely boost as the Gunners grapple with a right-back injury nightmare.
Timber has been sidelined for two months with a groin problem, and his absence has been compounded by Ben White's knee injury, which rules him out of the crucial run-in. With Arsenal facing Burnley and Crystal Palace in their final Premier League matches, followed by a Champions League showdown with Paris Saint-Germain on May 30, the right-back position is suddenly a major concern.
Without White and Timber, Arteta may have to turn to Cristhian Mosquera or left-back Riccardo Calafiori to fill the void—a daunting task against PSG's dynamic winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in Budapest.
"There is a chance," Arteta said when asked about Timber's availability. "But how big that chance is, I cannot tell you. He's going to try to do everything he can to convert that chance as high as possible in the shortest possible period. That's the challenge ahead."
The Spaniard added that Timber has made some progress in recent days. "He's feeling better. We're going to try to get him available as quickly as possible. But he's obviously been out now for a while, unfortunately. He's such an important player for us—we all know that—and he's doing everything he possibly can to help the team."
With Arsenal just two wins away from their first league title since 2004, every detail matters. Victory against Burnley on Monday would put the pressure on Manchester City, who need to win at Bournemouth to take the title race to the final day.
Arteta, ever the pragmatist, is already exploring alternatives. "The two players that we have there at right-back are not available at the moment. We need to look and do something else. The good thing is that we have experienced that all over the pitch this season."
For Arsenal supporters, Timber's potential return is a ray of light in an otherwise tense finale. Whether he makes it back in time could define the club's season—and their Champions League dreams.
