In a surprising turn of events at the Emirates, Arsenal's long-serving defender Katie McCabe has decided to end her decade-long tenure with the club, despite the Gunners reportedly preparing a contract U-turn to keep her.

The 30-year-old Irish international, who has been a cornerstone of Arsenal's defense, was initially expected to depart on a free transfer this summer. However, recent reports suggested the club was reconsidering its stance, planning to offer McCabe a new deal as part of a broader squad refresh aimed at lowering the team's age profile.

But McCabe has now penned an emotional letter to fans explaining her decision to move on. Arsenal have confirmed her departure, with Manchester City emerging as the frontrunners for her signature.

Speaking in March about her uncertain future, McCabe acknowledged interest from elsewhere: "I'm into my last six months, so technically you're allowed to speak to others. I've left those conversations to my agent, but there has been interest." She added, "The Arsenal fans know how committed I am to them. I think I've shown that over the last 10 years. I've given absolutely everything."

Interim head coach Renée Slegers addressed the situation ahead of Arsenal's final home game against Everton, keeping details close to the vest. "There are conversations between parties in the background which are private," Slegers said. "If there's news to share, we'll share it."

Reflecting on McCabe's impact, Slegers added, "I've seen what she brings to a team. She's been amazing. Along with Caitlin Foord, they've done so much for the club and contributed to the growth of where it all is now."

As McCabe prepares for her next chapter, Arsenal fans will undoubtedly remember her as a player who gave her all for the badge over the past decade.
