Arsenal Women's squad is set for a summer reshuffle as the club officially confirms the departure of defender Laia Codina when her contract expires at the end of the season.
The 26-year-old Spanish international arrived at the Emirates in 2023, making the switch from Barcelona with an impressive resume already in hand. Before joining the Gunners, Codina had tasted Champions League glory twice with the Catalan giants and sharpened her skills during a loan spell at AC Milan.
Since pulling on the red and white, Codina has been a steady presence at the back, racking up 58 appearances across all competitions and chipping in with four goals from defense. She played a key role in Arsenal's League Cup triumph during her debut season and added another Champions League winner's medal to her collection last year—ironically against her former club Barcelona, though she remained an unused substitute in the final.
This season under manager Renée Slegers, Codina featured in 24 matches and found the net once, continuing to show the composure and tactical awareness that made her a valuable squad member.
"Everyone at Arsenal Football Club thanks Laia for her efforts during her time with us and we wish her well for her next chapter," the club said in a statement, signaling the end of a two-year chapter that saw her grow into a reliable option in the Gunners' backline.
As Codina prepares for her next move, Arsenal fans will remember her contributions during a period of transition for the women's team—a defender who brought big-game experience and a winning mentality from her Barcelona days.
