When it comes to the NFL rumor mill, few names generate as much buzz as Aaron Rodgers. The four-time MVP quarterback, fresh off a one-year stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is currently a free agent weighing his football future. And naturally, that's led to speculation about a potential landing spot in the desert with the Arizona Cardinals.
After all, Rodgers has connections to the Cardinals' coaching staff, which has fans and analysts wondering if he could be under center in Arizona for the 2026 season. But new Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur is keeping his focus squarely on the players already in the building.
During a recent interview with Jim Rome, LaFleur addressed the Rodgers chatter directly—though perhaps not in the way some might have hoped.
"Honestly, right now, we're focused on the guys we've got coming in," LaFleur said. "You've got the unit that we have with Gardner (Minshew) and Jacoby (Brissett) and (Kedon) Slovis, and then we drafted Carson Beck in the third round."
LaFleur went on to emphasize his excitement about the current quarterback room, adding: "We've got a room we're excited to work with, and that's solely where my focus is."
Noticeably absent from his comments? Any direct mention of Rodgers. While LaFleur delivered the standard coach-speak about being committed to his current roster, he didn't exactly slam the door on the possibility. And let's be honest—if the opportunity to add a future Hall of Famer like Rodgers presented itself, most coaches would at least consider it.
That said, NFL Media's Ian Rapoport has effectively poured cold water on the idea, suggesting that a Rodgers-to-Arizona scenario is more fantasy than reality. Still, LaFleur's non-denial has left just enough wiggle room for the rumor mill to keep churning.
For now, the Cardinals are moving forward with a quarterback group that includes Minshew, Brissett, Slovis, and rookie Carson Beck. Whether that's the final lineup or just the starting point remains to be seen—but in the NFL, you never say never.
