The Minnesota Vikings may have just found their own version of Alvin Kamara—and it's not just wishful thinking.
When rookie running back Demond Claiborne was asked to compare his game to an NFL star, he didn't hesitate. "Alvin Kamara," the sixth-round pick told reporters after being drafted. "The way he runs the ball, his contact balance, not being the biggest back but being able to slip out of tackles, get those extra few yards."
It's an ambitious comparison, no doubt. But in the NFL, ambition isn't just welcome—it's necessary. The league rarely rewards players who play it safe. Claiborne's blend of humility and audacity is exactly the kind of mindset that turns late-round picks into fan favorites.
Claiborne also highlighted Kamara's ability to "take the ball for a long touchdown run," emphasizing explosive plays as a key goal. "I look forward to getting into the NFL and having my opportunity," he said.
The rookie didn't stop there. He also mentioned learning from Vikings veteran Aaron Jones, calling him "one of the guys that's doing it at an elite level." Claiborne noted an "underdog mentality" that comes with being a smaller back—a trait both Kamara and Jones embody.
If Claiborne can mirror either star—or blend elements of both—the Vikings could have a steal on their hands. Kamara and Jones share a knack for pass-catching, an area where Claiborne has room to grow. Last season, he hauled in 28 catches for 140 yards (5.0 yards per catch) without a receiving touchdown. But context matters: shorter routes often mean modest stats.
For a sixth-round pick with big dreams and even bigger comparisons, the potential is undeniable. Whether Claiborne becomes the next Kamara or carves his own path, one thing is clear: the Vikings have added a player who isn't afraid to aim high.
