'Antonelli puts Russell in shade' - Miami GP driver ratings

BBC Radio 5 Live F1 commentator Harry Benjamin rates how the drivers performed during the Miami Grand Prix.

The Miami Grand Prix delivered all the drama we've come to expect from Formula 1, and our driver ratings are in. Let's break down who shined and who struggled under the Florida sun.

Kimi Antonelli – 10/10
As Damon Hill perfectly put it on BBC Radio 5 Live, this was a "stupendous" weekend for the young Italian. Antonelli absolutely put Mercedes teammate George Russell in the shade, securing three pole positions and three consecutive wins. Sitting 20 points clear in the championship, his rivals have every reason to be worried.

Lando Norris – 9/10
McLaren's upgrade package worked wonders for the world champion. Norris dominated the sprint race Saturday and was unlucky that the anticipated wet weather never arrived on Sunday—otherwise, he might have taken the main race win too.

Oscar Piastri – 7/10
Solid but unspectacular from the Australian. Piastri was clearly adrift of his McLaren teammate Norris, though he did have some nice wheel-to-wheel battles with Russell during the race.

George Russell – 6/10
Completely overshadowed by Antonelli this weekend. Russell struggled to find the grip he needed and never managed to get into his usual rhythm. A weekend to forget for the Mercedes veteran.

Max Verstappen – 7/10
Red Bull made huge strides this weekend, but an uncharacteristic first-lap spin put Verstappen on the back foot. A five-second penalty for crossing the pit exit white line capped an underwhelming Sunday. Still, plenty of positives to build on.

Lewis Hamilton – 6/10
Trailed Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc all weekend. A slow pit stop and damage from contact with Alpine's Franco Colapinto didn't help his cause. Not the Miami comeback Hamilton was hoping for.

Kimi Antonelli's teammate comparison says it all
The 20-point gap between Antonelli and Russell in the championship standings tells the story. While McLaren's upgrades have Norris and Piastri looking strong, and Red Bull shows signs of recovery, it's the young Mercedes driver who's setting the pace.

Charles Leclerc – 7/10
A weekend of wasted potential for Leclerc. He was there or thereabouts all weekend but just missing that extra edge. A late spin and a post-race 20-second penalty for leaving the track dropped him from sixth to eighth. That final-lap mistake summed up a frustrating Miami trip.
