Championsip leader Kimi Antonelli overcame a suboptimal start to win his third consecutive Formula One race this season at the Miami Grand Prix on Sunday. The Mercedes driver started from pole position, but had a slow reaction once the lights went out and was overtaken by the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc and the Red Bull of Max Verstappen.

Kimi Antonelli is making history look routine. The championship leader secured his third consecutive Formula One victory at the Miami Grand Prix on Sunday, becoming the first driver ever to convert his first three pole positions into wins.

It wasn't a perfect start for the Mercedes star. When the lights went out, Antonelli's reaction was just a beat too slow, allowing Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Red Bull's Max Verstappen to sweep past. For a moment, it looked like the Italian's streak might end before it really got going.

But champions find a way. By lap six, Antonelli had dropped to third, and the race was further complicated when a safety car was deployed after Isack Hadjar crashed his Red Bull into the wall, followed by Pierre Gasly's Alpine making contact with Liam Lawson's Racing Bulls—all three forced to retire.

Lando Norris, fresh off winning Saturday's sprint race, took the lead from Leclerc after the safety car period. Antonelli held steady in third, biding his time. Then came the decisive moment: a perfectly executed pit stop strategy that saw the Italian retake the lead for good on lap 29.

"The start was not as bad as yesterday, it was a bit better," Antonelli said, referencing Saturday's sprint where he started second but lost positions and was later penalized to sixth. "The team did a great strategy. We did a massive undercut and we managed to bring it home even though it was not easy."

Despite struggling with his rear tyres in the closing stages, Antonelli held off a charging Norris, who claimed his first Grand Prix podium of the year with a second-place finish. McLaren's Oscar Piastri completed the podium, overtaking Leclerc on the final lap for third.

"This is just the beginning. The road is still long," Antonelli said. "We are working super hard and the team is doing an incredible job."

For fans watching at home or trackside, the Miami heat wasn't the only thing raising temperatures—Antonelli's relentless drive is turning this season into something special. Whether you're cheering for Mercedes or just love a good comeback story, one thing is clear: this is a championship battle you won't want to miss.
