Anthony Richardson is back in the building—but for how long?
The Indianapolis Colts have been shopping the 2023 No. 4 overall pick all offseason, hoping to find a trade partner. So far, no deal has materialized, and Richardson has decided to change his approach. After staying away for the past two weeks, he reported to the team's voluntary offseason program on Monday, according to ESPN's Stephen Holder.
While the Colts haven't given any indication they're closer to trading Richardson—or that they plan to release him—his return at least keeps him in the mix for now. Indianapolis declined to pick up his fifth-year option by last week's deadline, a move that was widely expected given his injury history and inconsistent play.
Richardson's presence adds another arm to a quarterback room that's already in flux. Daniel Jones is still recovering from a torn Achilles, leaving Riley Leonard and Seth Henigan as the other available options under center.
Richardson started 15 games over his first two seasons, but he lost the QB1 job to Jones during last year's training camp. When Jones went down late in the season with a torn Achilles, Richardson was sidelined by a fractured orbital bone suffered in a freak pregame accident—a frustrating end to another injury-marred campaign.
In 17 career appearances, Richardson has completed just 50.6% of his passes for 2,400 yards, with 11 touchdowns against 13 interceptions. He's also rushed for 634 yards and 10 scores, showcasing the dual-threat ability that made him a top-five pick. But with the Colts clearly looking to move on, his future in Indianapolis remains uncertain—even if he's back in the building for now.
