Anthony Richardson has been through a lot in his young NFL career, but the Colts quarterback is choosing to see the silver lining. The No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft recently opened up about his uncertain future with Indianapolis, calling it a "blessing in disguise."
Richardson's journey with the Colts hasn't gone as planned. After playing sparingly in 2025, he suffered a fractured orbital bone in a freak pregame accident and has since requested a trade—though no teams have stepped up to acquire him yet. Despite the setbacks, the 23-year-old quarterback remains committed to improving and has been attending the team's voluntary offseason workouts.
"The Colts are still giving me a chance to go out there and work, work hard and potentially get on the field," Richardson said during a ceremony where his jersey was retired by Gainesville (Fla.) Eastside High School. "Glad to be able to stay in the NFL and put the work in. Just showing up at OTAs, it was a blessing in disguise for me because I just wanted to work and they allowed me to do that so I'm thankful for that."
Injuries have been a recurring issue for Richardson, who was also benched for a couple of games in 2024. Over three seasons, he's appeared in just 17 games and lost the starting job to Daniel Jones in 2025. Still, the former Florida star isn't giving up on his dream.
"If I don't put that work in to be a better player then I won't be in the NFL," Richardson said. "I just want to work hard and constantly think about my opportunity that I have now and try to take advantage of it."
For now, Richardson is focused on showing up and proving he belongs. Whether that leads to a return to the field in Indianapolis or a fresh start elsewhere remains to be seen, but his resilience is a reminder that in the NFL, every rep counts.
