As Manchester City have surged to the top of the Premier League, won the Carabao Cup and booked themselves a semi-final date with Southampton in the FA Cup, Pep Guardiola has settled on his preferred attack. Erling Haaland, Antoine Semenyo, Jeremy Doku, and Rayan Cherki have established themselves as City’s first-choice attacking quartet. While that quartet has been a key component of Manchester City’s recent impressive displays, the backups to those four players aren’t at the same level. Omar Marmoush, Savinho, and Tijjani Reijnders have barely played in Manchester City’s past five matches. Phil Foden is excluded from this assessment. It does appear that City could need to add more quality to their attack this summer.

A new report from Sky Sports indicates that Manchester City is looking at a couple of players ahead of the summer transfer window who could bolster their attack. There is merit to the idea of City bolstering their attack this summer to improve the overall quality of Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Lyall Thomas and Adrian Kajumba have reported for Sky Sports that Manchester City have their eye on bolstering their attack this summer. As per the Sky Sports reporter, RB Leipzig’s dynamic and impressive young winger Yan Diomande and Bournemouth’s talented young striker Junior Kroupi are two players who have caught Manchester City’s eye. As per the Sky Sports report, City are well-stocked in attack, but they do have an eye on players who can improve the overall quality of their front line if attacking players depart the Etihad this summer.

Both Yan Diomande and Junior Kroupi are quality young players in their own right. Diomande has proven what a hot prospect he is with his impressive performances for RB Leipzig this season. Kroupi has been electric in the Premier League for Bournemouth, scoring eleven goals this season and also showing that he is a player who has the talent and potential to become an elite attacking player. Both players are 19 years of age, with the football world seemingly at their feet. However, the time to discuss their fit into the Manchester City squad isn’t now. A look at whether City should look to bolster their attack further, however, is on the cards.

It isn’t a stretch to say that there is a drop-off in City’s performances when any of Savinho, Omar Marmoush, and Tijjani Reijnders replaces one of Doku, Cherki, Semenyo, or Haaland. That isn’t a criticism of those three players; it is just the reality of what your eyes tell you when watching Manchester City play. Savinho is a frustrating player. His talent is there, but too often Savinho flatters to deceive.

Omar Marmoush seems destined to be Erling Haaland’s backup and nothing more. He has barely played recently, and you do wonder if he will be at City after this summer’s transfer window. Marmoush is a quality player, but you do wonder if he is a fit for Pep Guardiola’s side. Lastly, Tijjani Reijnders has also fallen from favour recently, and while it is his first season at Manchester City, you do feel that his card may be marked at City.

There is merit to the idea that Manchester City would benefit from bolstering their attack this summer. Adding more quality to their attack is a move that would improve Pep Guardiola’s squad. Adding players like Yan Diomande or Junior Kroupi, would add competition for places in the City attack and has the potential to make City an even more dangerous team in the final third.

Manchester City reportedly have their eyes on RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande and Bournemouth’s impressive striker Junior Krupi. Both are impressive young players who could potentially play a role in Pep Guardiola’s squad. However, looking at the bigger picture, perhaps City could benefit from improving their attack, especially the level underneath Haaland, Semenyo, Doku, and Cherki. If they could add an attacking player who is a consistent contributor, it may help City go up another level next season.
