Clemson missed on 2027 four-star running back Andrew Beard, who committed to Florida over the Tigers, Georgia and Tennessee.

In the ever-competitive world of college football recruiting, the SEC has once again flexed its muscles, pulling a prized prospect away from Clemson's grasp. Andrew Beard, a four-star running back in the class of 2027, announced his commitment to the Florida Gators, choosing them over the Tigers, Georgia, and Tennessee.

Beard, who stands 5-foot-10 and weighs 197 pounds, hails from Prince Avenue Christian School in Bogart, Georgia. His decision marks another recruiting victory for Florida, which has already beaten Clemson for offensive line targets Elijah Hutcheson and Peyton Miller. The Gators are clearly building momentum on the trail, and Beard is the latest addition to that hot streak.

Ranked as the No. 154 overall player in the 2027 class by 247Sports, Beard is also the No. 9 running back nationally and the No. 15 player in the state of Georgia. On 247Sports' own rankings, he sits at No. 165 overall, No. 8 among running backs, and No. 14 in Georgia. Those numbers alone explain why programs from coast to coast were lining up for his services.

But it's what Beard does on the field that truly sets him apart. Andrew Ivins of 247Sports describes him as a creative runner with three-down upside—a back who constantly finds yardage. Beard plays with a low pad level, excellent balance, and patience behind his blocks, then bursts through the second level. While he may not be the fastest back in the class, his game is built on vision, toughness, contact balance, and making defenders miss in tight spaces.

As a junior in 2025, Beard rushed for 1,260 yards and 12 touchdowns on 155 carries. He also hauled in 29 receptions for 435 yards and five more scores. That receiving production is a major asset. Beard isn't just an early-down runner who needs the offense built around him—he's a versatile weapon who can contribute in the passing game, the kind of all-around back Clemson has long valued.

His sophomore season in 2024 was even more eye-popping: 1,937 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns, averaging 8.7 yards per carry, plus 32 catches for 5 receiving scores. For a player who still has two more years of high school ball, the trajectory is only pointing up.

For Clemson fans, this one stings—especially given the recent trend of Florida beating them for top talent. But the Tigers' recruiting machine is far from stalled, and the chase for the next great back continues. As for Beard, he's heading to Gainesville with the chance to become the next star in a long line of Gator running backs.
