Despite not having a 1st round pick, initial feedback of the Colts’ recent draft class has been positive.

The Indianapolis Colts may have been without a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, but early reviews from around the league suggest their draft class is turning heads. According to The Athletic’s Mike Sando, anonymous NFL executives have weighed in on the Colts' haul, and the consensus is that this team may have found some real gems—especially on defense.

One executive noted that while the Colts didn't land a "Sauce Gardner-type" at the top of the draft, the real value will be measured by what they do with their future first-rounder. But for now, the focus is on the Day 2 picks that could make an immediate impact.

"CJ Allen is probably going to end up being a team captain on defense," one executive said. "And then they took some late-round swings on guys who had talent but also big question marks. That could buffer some of the early picks they didn't have."

Another executive praised the attitude of the new additions: "These are tough players. They have violent play styles. They take the ball away. They love football. To me, this is what you are looking for."

The highlight of the class is Georgia linebacker CJ Allen, selected at No. 53 after a slight trade-down from No. 47. A First-Team All-SEC standout, Allen is expected to step in as an immediate starter and bring a physical presence to the middle of the defense. Just a round later, the Colts snagged LSU safety AJ Haulcy at No. 78. Another First-Team All-SEC defender, Haulcy is also projected to start from Day 1, giving Indianapolis a pair of potential defensive cornerstones drafted on Day 2.

But the Colts didn't stop there. In the fourth round, they added Kentucky offensive guard Jalen Farmer at No. 113. Known for his physicality and run-blocking prowess, Farmer is expected to compete for the starting right guard job in training camp. Even if he doesn't win the job outright, his versatility and toughness make him a valuable backup—especially in a long season where depth on the offensive line is critical.

Rounding out the class, the Colts selected Oregon linebacker Bryce Boettcher at No. 135. While he may not start immediately, Boettcher adds quality depth behind Allen and gives the defense more options at the linebacker position.

All in all, the Colts' 2026 draft class is earning praise for its combination of talent, toughness, and immediate potential. Without a first-round pick, Indianapolis focused on finding players who can contribute right away—and early feedback suggests they may have done just that.
