The Boston Bruins are being urged to explore a blockbuster trade this offseason, with one insider suggesting they target Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk. After a season that saw the Bruins exceed expectations by making the playoffs—despite being projected to miss the cut—Boston fell short in the first round, leaving the front office eager to strengthen the roster for a deeper run.
Fluto Shinzawa, a Bruins analyst and insider for The Athletic, recommends that Boston check in on the availability of Tkachuk, a 26-year-old power forward signed to a seven-year, $57.56 million deal. With two years left on his contract, Shinzawa notes that Ottawa’s early playoff exit and Tkachuk’s zero-point postseason performance could raise questions about his long-term commitment to the Senators.
“The Ottawa Senators’ left wing is signed for two more seasons,” Shinzawa wrote. “But given Ottawa’s first-round exit and Tkachuk’s zero-point postseason output, the Senators may be concerned about whether he wants to stay upon the conclusion of his contract. There would be a line at the U.S.-Canada border of parties interested in acquiring the power forward.”
Tkachuk brings a rare blend of physicality, high-danger scoring, and leadership that few players can match. This season, he recorded 22 goals and 37 assists for 59 points in 60 games, while also helping Team USA secure Olympic gold in Milan. While he has publicly expressed a desire to stay in Ottawa, his name has surfaced in trade rumors, and the Bruins are well-positioned to at least gauge the asking price.
Whether Boston has the assets to pull off such a move remains uncertain, but with the team looking to build on an unexpectedly strong season, adding a player of Tkachuk’s caliber could be a game-changer. For Bruins fans, this is a storyline to watch closely as the offseason heats up.
