The Los Angeles Angels may have just been swept by the Cleveland Guardians, but one of their key starters is urging fans not to hit the panic button just yet. After a tough 1-5 road trip, left-hander Reid Detmers took the mound in Wednesday's series finale and delivered a solid outing—5.2 innings, four runs (three earned), and six strikeouts. Despite the loss, Detmers is confident the team can turn things around.

"Obviously we're grinding," Detmers said. "We're doing everything possible to go out there and win. It's not like we're going out there to lose. Some of it's unfortunate luck, and then obviously there's some stuff we need to tighten up. But inside this clubhouse, we're together. We're good. We've got our heads down every day trying to get better."

The Angels are currently a season-worst 12 games under .500, with the worst record in Major League Baseball after Wednesday's action. But Detmers isn't losing faith. "It's one of those things where it sounds cheesy, but trust the process. It's only the middle of May right now. There's still four and a half, five months to go. And we're only six games back. There's still plenty of time. Just kind of trust the process. Keep grinding. It's got to equal out eventually."

Offensively, the Halos have shown flashes of brilliance, especially through stars like Mike Trout, Zach Neto, and Jorge Soler. But consistency has been elusive—they managed just four hits in Wednesday's loss. On the mound, the team ERA sits at 4.63, and while Jose Soriano has been impressive early in the 2026 season, the bullpen ranks third-worst in the league with a 5.12 ERA.

The Angels now sit 6.5 games back in the AL West, and time is of the essence. They'll head home to face their crosstown rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers, in the Freeway Series this weekend. It's a chance to reset, refocus, and prove that Detmers' optimism isn't misplaced. In a season that's still young, the Angels have plenty of runway—but the clock is ticking.
