When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. When Mike Trout gives you Pokémon cards, you apparently hit home runs.

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto broke out of a brutal 0-for-18 slump Tuesday night in dramatic fashion—and he credits a legendary Pokémon card for the turnaround.

Before the Angels' 4-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox, superstar teammate Mike Trout approached Neto with a case of Pokémon cards and a bold prediction. "When we rip it, it's going to have homers in it," Trout said, according to MLB.com.

The two opened packs together, and when Neto pulled a Charizard—one of the most iconic and sought-after Pokémon cards of all time—Trout made a guarantee. "That if we found a Charizard, I was going to hit a homer. And we did," Neto recalled in a postgame interview.

The prophecy came true in spectacular fashion. Trout kicked things off in the first inning, launching an Eric Fedde sweeper into the seats. Neto followed suit in the fifth, sending another Fedde sweeper over the fence for his own round-tripper.

For Neto, who entered the night hitless in his last 18 at-bats, the simple act of ripping packs with Trout provided a much-needed mental reset. "Just the little things to get my head out of baseball a little bit," he said. "Sometimes that's what you need and I was able to come through."

Neto finished the game 2-for-4, proving that sometimes the best pregame routine involves trading cards, not batting practice. The Angels and White Sox wrap up their series Wednesday afternoon at Angel Stadium—and you can bet Neto will be keeping that Charizard close.
