The Los Angeles Angels' top prospect, Tyler Bremner, was pulled early from his start with High-A Tri-City on Wednesday due to illness and fatigue, the team confirmed. The right-hander managed just 1.1 innings and 34 pitches before exiting, allowing one earned run on two hits and a walk while striking out three.
Despite the abbreviated outing, Bremner has been electric in his first full professional season. Through four starts, he boasts a stellar 1.08 ERA with 25 strikeouts and only five walks across 16.2 innings. The Angels selected Bremner with the No. 2 overall pick in last year's MLB Amateur Draft, a move that raised eyebrows at the time given the availability of highly touted prospects like Ethan Holliday and Kade Anderson. But so far, Bremner is proving the franchise right.
The Halos are desperate for a spark. Their rotation owns the fifth-worst ERA in the majors, and the team is in a tailspin, losing nine of their last 10 games. After 36 games, they sit six games back in the division and hold the worst record in baseball. With a history of fast-tracking top arms, Bremner could see time in the big leagues later this season if the struggles continue. For now, the focus is on getting their young ace back to full strength.
