The Los Angeles Angels have officially activated right-handed pitcher Alek Manoah from the injured list, just in time for Wednesday's matchup against the Chicago White Sox. To make room on the active roster, left-hander Sam Aldegheri was optioned back to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Manoah, who signed a one-year, $1.95 million contract with the Angels ahead of the 2026 season, has yet to make his regular-season debut for the team. A middle finger contusion on his throwing hand sidelined him during spring training, and he began the year on the injured list. Now healthy, the 28-year-old has a chance to provide a much-needed boost to an Angels rotation that recently lost Yusei Kikuchi to a left-shoulder injury.
Angels fans will remember Manoah at his best: in 2022 with the Toronto Blue Jays, he posted a stellar 2.24 ERA over 31 starts, earned an All-Star nod, and finished third in Cy Young voting. However, the two seasons that followed were a struggle. Across 24 starts in 2023 and 2024, Manoah recorded a 5.40 ERA, allowing 20 home runs in just 111.2 innings. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2024, spent 2025 in Triple-A, was designated for assignment, and eventually picked up by the Atlanta Braves before landing with the Angels.
Now fully recovered and eager to prove himself, Manoah steps into a pivotal role for an Angels team looking to turn things around after a rough start to the season. If he can rediscover his 2022 form, he could be the key to stabilizing the rotation and sparking a comeback.
