Angel Martinez's leadoff homer got Cleveland started and rookie Parker Messick had another strong outing as the Guardians beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-2 on Wednesday to finish a three-game series sweep. Martinez homered off Reid Detmers (1-4) and the Guardians improved to 30-4 against the Angels at Progressive Field since 2015.

Angel Martinez set the tone with a leadoff home run, and rookie Parker Messick delivered another impressive start as the Cleveland Guardians swept the Los Angeles Angels with a 4-2 victory on Wednesday at Progressive Field.

Martinez wasted no time, launching Reid Detmers' fourth pitch over the wall for his first career leadoff homer. The blast extended Cleveland's remarkable dominance at home against the Angels, improving their record to 30-4 at Progressive Field since 2015—the best home record any team has against a single opponent over that span.

Messick (5-1) continued his strong rookie campaign, allowing just two runs and four hits over 6⅔ innings. The left-hander showed poise after issuing two walks in the early innings, settling in to keep the Angels' lineup off balance. Eric Sabrowski and Cade Smith closed the door in the eighth and ninth, with Smith striking out the side for his 13th save of the season.

The Guardians jumped out to an early lead, adding a run in the first on David Fry's infield groundout and another in the third on Chase DeLauter's sacrifice fly. Daniel Schneemann's RBI single in the sixth provided crucial insurance.

Zach Neto provided the Angels' only offense, connecting for a two-run homer in the fifth after being moved from the leadoff spot to sixth in the order by manager Kurt Suzuki. The Angels have now lost 11 of 12 on the road.

With Steven Kwan getting a day off, Martinez seized the opportunity at the top of the order—a role manager Stephen Vogt may continue to explore given Kwan's recent struggles. The versatile infielder also homered in Tuesday's win and nearly added another.

Both teams now look ahead to weekend series. The Angels (1-4, 3.97 ERA Jack Kochanowicz) travel home to face the Dodgers, while the Guardians (0-5, 4.17 ERA Tanner Bibee) open a three-game set against Cincinnati on Friday.
