The Cleveland Browns are doing their homework on this year's quarterback prospects, and one name has created a particularly intriguing storyline. At the NFL Scouting Combine, former Alabama signal-caller Ty Simpson called the chance to play for new Browns head coach Todd Monken a "dream come true," citing a long-standing family friendship with the coach.
General Manager Andrew Berry acknowledged the team's interest during his pre-draft press conference, stating, "We’ve enjoyed the time that we’ve spent with Ty." Berry praised Simpson as a coach's son who is "really smart, very driven," and physically talented, highlighting his unique path at Alabama. "He has a very unique college journey... coming in as a five-star and then really having to wait his turn behind two pretty talented quarterbacks [in] Bryce Young and Jalen Milroe before getting his chance under center. And he did a great job maximizing it."
Simpson made the most of his lone season as a starter in 2025, completing 64.5 percent of his passes for 3,567 yards with 28 touchdowns and just five interceptions, earning second-team All-SEC honors. He is widely considered one of the top quarterbacks in this draft class.
The Browns' quarterback room currently features Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson, and Dillon Gabriel, leading to questions about what drafting another QB would mean for the group. Berry addressed this diplomatically, saying, "If we add a quarterback, we have a lot of love for the quarterbacks that are in the room... So that decision would be made independently of anything that we add to the room."
As the draft approaches, the connection between Simpson and Monken adds a compelling layer to Cleveland's potential strategy, keeping fans and analysts watching to see if this pre-draft interest turns into a selection.
