After a tough Game 1 loss at Madison Square Garden, the Philadelphia 76ers are gearing up for a crucial bounce-back performance in Game 2 against the New York Knicks. The message from veteran center Andre Drummond is clear: resilience is key.
"We’re a resilient group," Drummond said during Wednesday's shootaround. "They did what they were supposed to do. They’re at home. They had three days off. They played a great game. You can’t beat teams that shot 60% from 3 and from the field. We’ll make the adjustments and come out tonight and play the way we’re supposed to play."
The Knicks came out firing in Game 1, shooting an incredible 63.1% from the floor and 51.4% from beyond the arc, handing the Sixers a 137-98 defeat. It was a tough pill to swallow, but Drummond and his teammates know that sometimes basketball is simply a make-or-miss game—and on Monday, New York made theirs while Philadelphia struggled, shooting just 41.1% from the field and 36.7% from deep.
"I think we were generating good shots," Drummond explained. "It was just one of those games where we’re not making them and I think that’s something out of our control. It’s not like we were taking bad shots or not getting enough shots. We just weren't making them. So, those shots that we take, I’m sure they’ll go in tonight. If not, we’ll get stops and shoot them again."
While shooting will likely regress to the mean, the Sixers know that defense must be the top priority. Jalen Brunson torched Philadelphia in Game 1, and Drummond emphasized the need for better pick-and-roll coverage. "Just paying attention to detail," he stated.
This isn't unfamiliar territory for the Sixers. They showed their resilience earlier in the playoffs against the Boston Celtics, bouncing back from adversity. Now, with the series shifting back to their favor, Philadelphia will need to channel that same grit. As Drummond put it, it's about making the right adjustments, locking in defensively, and trusting that the shots will fall. Game 2 is their chance to even the series and prove they can hang with the Knicks.
