Since 1937, the thunder of hooves has echoed across Delaware Park in Stanton, and this year is no exception. The historic track kicks off its 89th season on May 13, promising another thrilling chapter of thoroughbred racing.

Opening day features an eight-race card starting at 12:20 p.m., with the seventh race taking center stage—a $46,000 allowance sprint over six furlongs featuring a competitive field of five. In the sixth race, keep an eye on Blame and Fortune, a $300,000 Keeneland purchase making her career debut for trainer Michael Stidham in a $45,000 maiden special weight.

The season spans 76 live racing days through Oct. 17. The schedule shifts throughout the year: Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday in May and June; Wednesday through Saturday in July; then Thursday through Saturday through fall. Always check the calendar at delawarepark.com for exceptions.

Circle June 13 on your calendar—that's when the $300,000 Delaware Derby returns for its second running, a showcase for 3-year-olds that could attract Kentucky Derby and Preakness contenders. The day includes T-shirt and hat giveaways, plus contests for the best derby and bonnet hats. The undercard is stacked with five other stakes, including the $300,000 Delaware Oaks for 3-year-old fillies and the $250,000 Robert G. Dick Memorial on turf.

The crown jewel arrives Sept. 26: the $500,000 Delaware Handicap for fillies and mares, anchoring a card with four stakes events. Earlier, on Sept. 11, the Delaware certified program takes the spotlight with four $125,000 stakes and two $75,000 races.

For a wild twist, don't miss July 4, when the track's second Safari Sprint features ostrich, camel, and zebra races between the thoroughbred events. It's a unique blend of tradition and spectacle that only Delaware Park can deliver.
