For years, the Baltimore Ravens have built their identity on one thing: being the toughest team on the field. From the legendary intensity of Ray Lewis to the hard-nosed mindset of new defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, the Ravens are doubling down on that brutal, physical style of play. And if you want to play that way, you need players who embody that spirit from the very first snap.
Enter Olaivavega Ioane, the Penn State guard the Ravens selected in the 2026 NFL Draft. According to NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks, Ioane might just be the most "Raven" player in the entire draft class.
"There was no one in the 2026 class who embodied the team's 'Play Like A Raven' mantra more than the Penn State standout," Brooks wrote. "Thanks to his rugged playing style and nasty demeanor, Ioane should mesh well with the organizational culture of physicality, toughness and disciplined football."
Brooks went on to describe Ioane as a "big-bodied people-mover with heavy hands and explosive lower body strength," calling him a perfect fit for Baltimore's power-based attack. That's high praise, especially considering the Ravens just lost key interior linemen Daniel Faalele and Tyler Linderbaum. Ioane isn't just being brought in to fill a hole—he's being counted on to restore a mentality.
Of course, for a rookie, there's no such thing as a gentle transition in Baltimore. Ioane will be tasked with protecting two-time MVP Lamar Jackson from Day 1. That's a heavy responsibility, especially after the Ravens missed the postseason in 2025. The expectations for 2026 are clear: get back to the playoffs, and that starts up front.
If Ioane can live up to the scouting report, he won't just be a draft pick—he'll be the next piece of the Ravens' identity. If he can't? Well, the offensive picture in Baltimore could get ugly fast. But if there's one thing this rookie seems to have, it's the right attitude for the job.
