In the high-stakes world of professional tennis, the court often showcases discipline and sportsmanship. But behind closed doors, the locker room tells a different story—and WTA star Sachia Vickery isn't holding back.
The American player recently made headlines with explosive claims about the culture on tour, calling out fellow players and coaches as "super fake and two-faced." During an Instagram Q&A session ahead of her match at the FineMark Women's Pro Tennis Championship, a fan asked the million-dollar question: "What are WTA players like on the tour in the locker rooms? Does everyone get along?"
Vickery's response was raw and unfiltered. "Super fake and two-faced, players/coaches they all talk s**t about each other and laugh, then smile in their face when they see them, it's crazy work," she wrote. But she did offer a silver lining: "Some girls are cool though! I have good friends on tour!"
With a career spanning 15 years since turning pro in 2011, the 30-year-old knows the ins and outs of the locker room better than most. Currently ranked No. 697 in singles, Vickery continues to compete on both the ITF and WTA circuits, bringing a veteran's perspective to the game.
Her season has been a tough one so far. Vickery has won only two of nine matches in 2024, both coming at the Vero Beach International Tennis Open, where she reached the quarterfinals before falling to fellow American Whitney Osuigwe. Her last WTA appearance was at the Charleston Open in March, where she suffered a first-round loss to Donna Vekic, 2-6, 2-6.
Unfortunately, the drama didn't end with her Instagram comments. Hours after making those bold accusations, Vickery took the court at the FineMark Women's Pro Tennis Championship—and things went from bad to worse. After dropping the first set 5-7, she retired from the match against Gabriela Lee early in the second set due to an unspecified injury.
For a player already battling on the court, this locker room reveal adds a new layer to the conversation about what really happens when the cameras stop rolling. Whether you're a fan of the sport or just love a good behind-the-scenes story, one thing is clear: the WTA tour is full of surprises—both on and off the court.
