The New Orleans Saints made waves on the first day of free agency, signing former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. to a four-year, $48 million contract—and it seems the team’s longtime star, Alvin Kamara, is fully on board.

Kamara, who knows a thing or two about sharing the backfield, spoke about the move during a Monday appearance on The Set YouTube show, hosted by his former teammate Terron Armstead. He pointed to his early years with Mark Ingram as the blueprint for what a two-back system can look at its best.

“I think me and Mark set the bar very high,” Kamara said. “That’s what efficiency looks like on a very high level.”

With Etienne now in the fold, speculation has swirled that Kamara’s days in New Orleans could be numbered. But the veteran back isn’t buying into any drama. Instead, he’s embracing the addition as a boost to the offense.

“I think a lot of people are thinking this is like beef or something when moves like this happen,” Kamara said. “And it’s like, ‘Man, I couldn’t be happier.’ Like, one, my boy got paid, and two… ain’t nothing but some help in the backfield. That’s the name of the game.”

Etienne arrives after a strong season in Jacksonville, where he rushed for over 1,100 yards and seven touchdowns. Kamara has been watching from afar and likes what he sees.

“One person can’t do it by themselves, so I’m cool,” Kamara added. “I ain’t gonna say we’re gonna recreate what we had, but we’re gonna do something special.”

For Saints fans, the Kamara-Etienne pairing promises to bring a fresh dynamic to the backfield—and maybe even a spark reminiscent of those dominant Ingram-Kamara days. As training camp approaches, all eyes will be on how these two backs share the load in 2026.
