Well, that settles that debate.
When the New Orleans Saints signed Travis Etienne in free agency, speculation immediately swirled that it could spell the end of Alvin Kamara's tenure in the Big Easy. With less than a month before the team must decide on Kamara's future, General Manager Mickey Loomis offered an answer that sounded far from certain. But if you want to know what Kamara thinks, there's no mystery at all—he's all in on forming a dynamic 1-2 punch in the backfield.
Speaking on Terron Armstead's podcast, Kamara made his excitement crystal clear. "I've watched him in Jacksonville these past couple of years," Kamara said. "Explosive, he hit home runs. He did it in college. Strong dude. Seemed smart. I'm excited to see what we could do together."
Kamara also addressed any talk of tension between the two running backs. "I ain't into social media and all that. I don't do too much watching and stuff, but I think a lot of people be thinking it's like beef or something. When moves like this happen... man, shoot, I couldn't be happier. Like one, my boy got paid. And two, there ain't nothing but some help in the backfield. That's the name of the game. You could dip. One person can't do it by themselves, so I'm cool with it, man. Whichever direction that we can take it."
Kamara's words are a refreshing vote of confidence for Saints fans. For a player who doesn't often speak publicly, his enthusiasm for teaming up with Etienne is unmistakable. Together, they have the potential to form one of the most formidable running back duos in the NFL—a combination of Kamara's elusiveness and Etienne's explosive speed that could keep defenses guessing all season.
The biggest question remains the financial side: will New Orleans see the value in keeping a 31-year-old running back on the payroll? But if the duo stays together, Saints supporters have plenty of reason to be excited about what's ahead in the backfield.
