Alvin Kamara isn't ready to hang up his cleats just yet—and he's making it clear he's all in on the New Orleans Saints' latest big move.
Speaking on teammate Terron Armstead's podcast, The Set, the star running back didn't directly address his own future plans, but his enthusiasm for the team's new addition spoke volumes. The Saints recently signed former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne to a four-year, $52 million deal in free agency, and Kamara couldn't be more thrilled.
"I think a lot of people be thinking there's beef or something when moves like this happen," Kamara said. "It's like, shoot, I couldn't be happier. One, my boy got paid, and two, ain't nothing but some help in the backfield. That's the name of the game. One person can't do it by themselves. I'm cool with it. Whichever direction that we can take it, I'm with it."
The Saints made headlines earlier this offseason by restructuring Kamara's contract, which made it easier to trade or release him after June 1. That move sparked plenty of speculation about the veteran's future, with the team only confirming that Kamara remains on the roster for now. He's currently set to count $10.45 million against the salary cap, and a pay cut might be necessary for him to stay in New Orleans—but if his latest comments are any indication, he's ready to make it work.
"I haven't had too much a chance to talk to him, but definitely excited that he's got a fleur-de-lis on his helmet, and he got paid," Kamara added, referring to Etienne.
Kamara knows a thing or two about dynamic duos in the backfield. From 2017 to 2020, he and Mark Ingram formed one of the NFL's most feared one-two punches, combining for 3,380 rushing yards and 40 rushing touchdowns. That chemistry was a key part of the Saints' offensive identity, and Kamara sees the same potential with Etienne.
"I think that's what we trying to find. Me and Mark set the bar very high. That's what efficiency looks like on a very high level," Kamara said. "I'm 100 percent for it. If that's what direction we're going in, I'm with it. I think we can get there."
For Saints fans, the prospect of Kamara and Etienne sharing the backfield is an exciting one—and with Kamara's willingness to embrace the change, it could be the start of another dominant era in New Orleans.
