The NC State Wolfpack's coaching staff just got a major boost. Head coach Mark Gainey has secured his second SEC assistant, bringing in the highly respected Alvin Brooks III to join the pack.

Brooks III brings a wealth of high-level experience to Raleigh. A Division I assistant since 2007, his resume includes stops at Bradley, Sam Houston State, and Kansas State. His most impactful tenure was an eight-year stretch at Baylor under Scott Drew, where he rose from assistant to Associate Head Coach and lead recruiter. He was instrumental in a golden era for the Bears, helping secure two regular-season titles and the coveted 2021 NCAA National Championship.

Most recently, Brooks served as the Associate Head Coach for Mark Pope at Kentucky, where his UK bio credits him with a key role in recruiting, defensive strategy, scouting, and player development. The Wildcats finished the 2024-25 season 22-14 with a trip to the NCAA Tournament's second round.

This hire signals a clear intent from Coach Gainey to build a staff with proven power-conference pedigree and recruiting chops. Brooks's deep ties in the basketball world, including his father Alvin Brooks II, the former head coach at Lamar, will be a valuable asset as NC State looks to compete at the highest level of the ACC.
