Real Madrid cruised to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Real Oviedo on Thursday, but the real drama unfolded off the pitch. All eyes have shifted from the match result to a brewing tension between head coach Álvaro Arbeloa and superstar forward Kylian Mbappé.

Speaking in the mixed zone at the Santiago Bernabéu, Mbappé claimed that Arbeloa had told him he was currently the club's fourth-choice striker—behind Vinícius Júnior, Gonzalo García, and Franco Mastantuono. It's a statement that would raise eyebrows for any player of Mbappé's caliber, and Arbeloa was quick to fire back when he faced the media himself.

"I don't know what to say. I don't have four forwards, and I haven't said that phrase to Mbappé," Arbeloa asserted, per Diario AS. "You must have misunderstood me. If I don't put him on, he can't play. I decide—I am the coach."

The former Real Madrid defender turned manager didn't stop there. He explained that his decision to bench Mbappé was purely tactical and precautionary, not a reflection of the Frenchman's standing in the squad. "Today he did not start because it's not a matter of life or death," Arbeloa explained. "We have a game on Sunday, and for sure he will be the first striker against Sevilla. Seven days later, he will be the first striker again. I understand that players who don't play are not happy. I can understand his frustration, but it was the most logical, common-sense decision."

Arbeloa also revealed that this isn't an isolated incident. "It hasn't happened only with Kylian, but also with many other players," he admitted, confirming recent reports of friction within the squad. "These situations occur due to the circumstances, which have been different from other coaches at the club. I have a clear conscience—I am going to do the best I can. I don't care about the noise; I'll do what I consider right until the last day."

When asked if he felt the players had been ungrateful, Arbeloa took a philosophical tone. "I don't expect from my players what I have given for them. I know how we players are. I know how they think."

It's a tense moment for a Real Madrid side that has been navigating a season of high expectations and even higher pressure. For fans and casual observers alike, this clash between a legendary club figure and its brightest attacking star is a storyline worth watching—especially with a crucial La Liga clash against Sevilla looming on the horizon.
