In the high-stakes world of college basketball recruiting, Kentucky Basketball is leaving no stone unturned as they look to add one more impact player to their roster for next season. While much of the buzz has centered around sharpshooter Milan Momcilovic as the top remaining target for the Wildcats, it appears head coach Mark Pope also tested the waters with another talented forward.
Santa Clara's Allen Graves, a 6-foot-9, 225-pound Los Angeles native, recently revealed that Kentucky reached out to his agents. However, according to ESPN's Jeff Borzello, the sharpshooter is currently only considering Duke and LSU should he decide to return to college—and that's a big "if." Graves has made it clear that his preference is to remain in the NBA Draft, provided he's projected as a first-round pick.
Graves made a name for himself during Santa Clara's memorable NCAA Tournament run, averaging 11.8 points (on an impressive 41.3% from three-point range), 6.5 rebounds, 1.9 steals, and 1.8 assists in just 22.6 minutes per game. Kentucky fans will certainly remember him for his clutch go-ahead three-pointer against the Wildcats in the Round of 64—a shot that seemed to seal the game for Santa Clara until Otega Oweh's miraculous near-half-court buzzer-beater sent the game to overtime, where Kentucky ultimately prevailed.
While it's easy to see why Pope would want to add a versatile, knockdown shooter like Graves to the mix, it appears the Wildcats' best bet for a star addition remains Momcilovic. For now, Kentucky's roster puzzle continues to take shape, but the pursuit of elite talent never stops in Lexington.
