It's a huge week for high school softball in the region, with Maryland's Class 1A West Region I semifinals tipping off Monday and West Virginia's region playoffs getting underway. The stakes? A shot at state glory—and the kind of championship pedigree that inspires players to step up their game, on and off the field.

In Maryland, top-seeded Allegany (17-1) is chasing its seventh straight region title. The Campers host No. 4 Mountain Ridge (8-11) at 4:30 p.m., while No. 2 Northern (12-7) takes on No. 6 Southern (10-11) in a Garrett County showdown at the same time. The winners advance to Wednesday's region final, hosted by the higher seed.

Allegany has dominated Mountain Ridge this season, winning 7-0 and 11-1 in regular-season play. Expect St. Francis signee Jordyn Sneathen (11-1, 1.11 ERA) to start in the circle for the Campers, facing either Destinee Johnson (2-5, 4.93 ERA) or Juliana Burriss (0-1, 2.41 ERA) for the Miners. At the plate, Allegany's Sadee Baker leads the team with a .407 average, while Savannah Walton has racked up 14 doubles. For Mountain Ridge, Macy Barth is a standout with a .508 average, two triples, six doubles, 17 RBIs, and 27 runs scored.

Over in the other semifinal, Northern's Rain Ritchey (5-3, 1.46 ERA) is set to duel Southern's Adeline Wilson (8-5, 3.17 ERA). Ritchey also paces the Huskies with a .509 average, three triples, and six doubles. Wilson, committed to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, is a force for the Rams with a .531 average, eight home runs, 31 RBIs, and 30 runs scored. Northern swept Southern 11-2 and 14-4 in the regular season.

Meanwhile, West Virginia's region playoffs kick off Monday with a double-elimination format. Four local teams are in action, with champions advancing to the state tournament at Little Creek Park in South Charleston from May 27 to June 4—the first year with an eight-team, double-elimination format.

In Class AAA, Region II, Hampshire (0-24) travels to Robert C. Byrd at 6 p.m., with the winner facing Lewis County on Tuesday. Region II's top seed, Keyser (20-4), awaits the winner of Elkins and Bridgeport on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

In Class AA, Region II, Frankfort (18-10) hosts South Harrison, and Moorefield (14-15) welcomes Berkeley Springs—both games starting at 7 p.m. Monday. Top-seeded Petersburg (22-4) will face the Frankfort/South Harrison winner on Tuesday.

In Class A, Region II, East Hardy (8-11) opens a three-game series against Tygarts Valley for a state tournament berth. Game 1 is Monday at 6 p.m. at East Hardy, with Game 2 on Wednesday.

Whether you're tracking future stars like Wilson or Sneathen, or just love the intensity of playoff softball, this week promises unforgettable action. Time to gear up and cheer on your favorites!
