Alex Albon has had a change of heart about the Miami Grand Prix—and he's not afraid to admit it. The Williams F1 driver, fresh off a points-scoring finish at the Hard Rock Stadium, recently opened up about how the event has won him over since its dramatic debut in 2022.
"Honestly, Miami's warmed up to me a lot," Albon revealed in a chat with former F1 driver David Coulthard for Williams. "The first year, it felt like a show—a bit like Vegas in year one. But as time has gone on, they've improved the structure of the races, and the teams have sorted themselves out coming here. It's enjoyable now. I really enjoy it."
The Miami GP burst onto the F1 scene just a few years ago, quickly earning a contract extension that keeps it on the calendar until 2041. For Albon, the evolution has been striking. He credits the friendly, positive energy of American fans and the event's growing maturity for changing his perspective. "Everyone is really friendly. I think Americans generally have a very positive demeanour," he noted, adding that he and his partner Lily have even discussed the possibility of living in the area.
Williams arrived in Miami with a fresh set of upgrades after a productive five-week break in April. The hard work paid off: Carlos Sainz crossed the line in ninth, with Albon right behind in 10th, securing three crucial points for the Grove-based team. The result pushes Williams to eighth in the constructors' standings with five points, trailing Racing Bulls in seventh but comfortably ahead of Audi in ninth.
With momentum building, the team now sets its sights on the Canadian Grand Prix, scheduled for May 22-24. For Albon and Williams, the Miami GP wasn't just a race—it was a statement that this team is ready to fight for every point, on every track, in every corner of the globe.
