Barcelona's Champions League hopes are hanging by a thread after a bruising 2-0 home defeat to Atlético Madrid in the quarter-final first leg. Despite controlling possession for large periods, Barça found Atlético's defensive wall impenetrable, with goals from Sørloth and Julián Álvarez leaving the Camp Nou in stunned silence.

Adding to the concern are fresh fitness worries for two of their brightest stars. Manager Hansi Flick revealed that Pedri was substituted at halftime due to "some discomfort," a precautionary move for the often-injured midfielder. Flick did find positives, however, praising the "fantastic" second-half energy brought by Gavi and Dani Olmo as the team pushed for a lifeline.

The post-match spotlight, though, fell on teenage sensation Lamine Yamal. After watching the winger endure a physically punishing night, Flick issued a strong plea for his protection. "He's an incredible player; he's the reason people go to the stadium," Flick stated, comparing him to global stars like Mbappé and Vinícius. He called for referees and those around Yamal to shield him from "excessive roughness," emphasizing that the 18-year-old's brilliance is key to their daunting comeback mission in Madrid.
