Manchester United are facing a major decision over interim boss Michael Carrick—and Premier League legends Alan Shearer and Gary Neville have both weighed in on what the club should do next.

Carrick has completely transformed United's fortunes since taking over from Ruben Amorim earlier this year. The results speak for themselves: 10 wins, two draws, and just two losses in charge. His biggest statement came on Sunday, when United pulled off a stunning 3-2 victory over bitter rivals Liverpool—securing a league double over the Merseyside club and, more importantly, guaranteeing Champions League football for next season.

It's not just the results that have impressed. The performances have been sharper, the mentality stronger, and the players are fully behind their boss. Stars like Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes, and Matheus Cunha have reportedly pushed for Carrick to stay, while young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo said the team is ready to "die on the pitch" for the 44-year-old coach.

Despite this, United insist they won't rush into a permanent appointment. They want to consider all options, with names like Andoni Iraola, Julian Nagelsmann, Oliver Glasner, and Gareth Southgate still in the mix.

Gary Neville, who was initially against Carrick staying long-term, has now softened his stance—but only under certain conditions. He believes a short-term deal could work. Alan Shearer agrees. Speaking on the BBC, Shearer backed Neville's view: "They brought him in to do a specific job, and he has done that job very, very well. He's won in big games—beaten City, beaten Arsenal, beaten Liverpool. For me, he at least deserves the chance to go again. Maybe a one-year contract with different incentives if he hits different targets. But he was brought in to steady the ship, and he's done that."

The question now is whether United will give Carrick the full-time role or stick with their original plan. One thing is clear: Carrick has made himself impossible to ignore.
