Another edge rusher has joined Alabama football's 2027 recruiting class.

Stevan Thornton III, a 2027 three-star defensive end out of Cairo, Georgia, announced his commitment to Alabama on Tuesday, April 21, choosing the Crimson Tide with offers from programs such as Georgia and Arkansas.

"1,000% COMMITTED," Thornton wrote in a social media post. "All glory to God for guiding me through prayer, hard work, and the support of my family. This journey didn't come easy, but I'm proud to announce I'm officially 1,000% committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide."

Thornton is Alabama's first commitment since the Crimson Tide landed three-star defensive lineman Avrian Pauley Jr. on April 11.

Like Pauley, Thornton is not the highest rated defensive prospect in the 2027 class. Per 247Sports' composite rankings, he is the No. 812 prospect and the No. 64 overall edge.

But Thornton fits the frame of what Alabama wants out of an edge rusher, whether it's at Wolf outside linebacker or Bandit defensive end, both of which are now led by outside linebackers coach Christian Robinson. Thornton is 6-foot-5 and 207 pounds.

And he's been productive. Per 247Sports, Thornton had 91 tackles, 20 tackles-for-loss and eight sacks for Cairo High School in 2025.
