Manchester United's summer squad reshuffle appears to be kicking off, with backup goalkeeper Altay Bayindir reportedly set for a return to Turkey. According to reports from Fanatik, an agreement in principle is in place for the 28-year-old to join Besiktas, which would mark one of the first major sales under the new INEOS-led football operation.
Bayindir's departure seems a logical move for all parties. Signed from Fenerbahce for £4.3 million in 2023, the Turkish international found opportunities severely limited at Old Trafford. He managed just six starts this season, a run during which United conceded 11 goals and failed to keep a single clean sheet. His brief stint as the number one came early in the campaign after Andre Onana's form dipped, but the arrival of Senne Lammens on deadline day quickly pushed him back down the pecking order.
Since Lammens' debut in October, Bayindir hasn't featured at all, with even the FA Cup fixture against Brighton bypassing him. Talks with Besiktas were held as far back as January, but United blocked a winter move due to a lack of depth after Onana's departure to Trabzonspor. With the club likely to seek a new backup goalkeeper, clearing Bayindir's path for a homecoming makes strategic sense as United look to streamline their squad and build for a more competitive future.
