Lost in the craziness of Bayern Munich’s 5-04 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League was a very very interesting report from Sport Bild journalists Christian Falk and Julian Agardi (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Last week, the agent for Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon was — allegedly — in Germany to meet with Bayern Munich to discuss potential terms for his client:
Anthony Gordon’s agent Gordon Stipic-Wipfler was in Munich last week for talks with FC Bayern. Concrete figures have been discussed. Newcastle are demanding around €86m as things stand. Bayern will not pay that fee but are not giving up on the player. The goal is to reach an agreement with Gordon and then negotiate the price down with Newcastle. Should the Gordon transfer fall through, Bayern already have alternatives in mind. [@AgardiJulian, @cfbayern]
If the report is true (and there is no reason to think it is not at this point), it is a very interesting development for the Bavarians.
Gordon seems to be the player that Bayern Munich has specifically targeted and the one who it feels like they can get. As indicated in the report, personal terms will not be an issue, but Newcastle United’s expectation for a transfer fee is really what will make or break this deal.
