Michael Block may have missed the cut at the PGA Championship, but don't expect this to be his final act on golf's biggest stage. The 49-year-old club professional, who captured hearts with his remarkable T-15 finish at Oak Hill in 2023, faced a tough second round at Aronimink Golf Club on Friday. After a promising start that saw him reach 1-under par following a birdie on the par-3 fifth hole, Block stumbled down the stretch, playing his final 13 holes in 6-over par and finishing with back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 17 and 18. His 5-over total after 36 holes likely leaves him one or two shots shy of the cut line.
Just a day earlier, Block had shared an unforgettable moment from his opening round alongside Dustin Johnson and Rasmus Hojgaard. "I was in the bathroom on hole 12 or 13 today," Block recalled with a grin. "There was no mirror, so I wasn't looking at myself, but I said, 'You got this.' I go, 'You're actually pretty good, buddy.' And I just kept going. I'm with D.J., one of my idols, a guy I looked up to my whole life, and Rasmus, who's an unbelievable player. They both hit it 50 yards by me on every shot. I'm just going, 'You got this, bud. You got it.' It's really cool. It's kind of fun, if I'm going to be honest."
Despite the disappointing finish, Block's optimism remained unshaken when asked if this—his 10th career major start—might be his last. Speaking with SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio, the fan favorite was emphatic: "I have to be honest with you. There's no way on God's green earth this is my last one. No chance. I will definitely qualify for one more, if not five more."
For golf fans and apparel enthusiasts alike, Block's resilience is a reminder that the spirit of the game isn't measured by leaderboard position alone. Whether you're chasing a major title or just enjoying a Sunday round, it's that unwavering belief that keeps us coming back for more.
