In a sudden turn of events that underscores the unpredictable nature of motorsports sponsorship, DGM Racing has been forced to make an unexpected driver change ahead of this weekend's NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series race at Watkins Glen International.

Josh Williams, who has been the primary driver of the No. 92 DGM Racing Chevrolet throughout the 2026 season, will not take the wheel at the historic New York road course. The decision, announced Tuesday, stems not from performance issues but from what the team describes as a "newly onboarded partner failing to meet its contractual obligations."

Williams currently sits 28th in the series standings, having competed in every O'Reilly race this year, though he did not qualify for events at COTA and Phoenix. Despite this setback, the team has confirmed that Williams will continue to pilot the No. 92 in various races throughout the remainder of the 2026 season, and his 2027 contract with DGM remains intact.

"This is an unfortunate circumstance for everyone involved," Williams said in a team statement. "No team works harder than the men and women at DGM, and this is just another setback for a dedicated team that consistently shows up doing so much with so little. We were very excited to bring a new partner into the sport, but they weren't able to fulfill the terms and commitments they agreed to."

Stepping into the seat this weekend is Canadian racer Alex Guenette, who brings sponsorship from DLGL HRIS Software. The 30-year-old from Terrebonne, Quebec, has seven previous starts in the series, though none since the 2023 season. His best finish came at the Chicago Street Course, where he placed 15th.

Guenette is no stranger to victory lane, having proven his mettle in the NASCAR Canada Series. His lone win came at Circuit Trois-Rivières during the 2022 season, showcasing road course prowess that could serve him well at the challenging Watkins Glen layout.

"While this is an incredible opportunity for Alex, this is a terribly difficult situation for our team," said Mario Gosselin, DGM team owner. "Business aside, Josh is like a son to me, and I hate that we cannot keep him in the seat this weekend. We came into the season with strong commitments that we believed were going to elevate our program and position our team for success, but when those don't come to fruition, tough decisions have to be made."

The situation serves as a reminder of the delicate financial ecosystem that supports racing teams, where sponsorship commitments can make or break a weekend's lineup. For now, DGM Racing looks ahead, with Williams eyeing a return to action and Guenette ready to make the most of his opportunity at The Glen.
