There’s no shortage of pettiness in the NBA. But who would’ve thought it started at the very top.

In the NBA, a little pettiness isn't unusual—but when it comes from the very top, it's a whole different game. Michael Porter Jr. is thriving since his Denver exit, but that doesn't mean he's forgotten what he believes cost him a shot at All-Star Weekend. The Brooklyn Nets forward recently opened up on N3ON's livestream, venting about his former team and, more notably, about missing his first All-Star nod during a breakout season.

After cracking the top ten in fan voting, many expected Porter to earn his spot. But he suspects NBA Commissioner Adam Silver had a hand in his exclusion. "I think I may have not made the All-Star team because I leaked Adam Silver's number," Porter claimed, revisiting a viral moment from 2019 that fans still remember as his "Welcome to the League" moment.

Here's the backstory: During the Rookie Transition Camp in New York, Porter was on Snapchat during a slideshow presentation. He snapped a picture and posted it to his story—unaware that Silver's phone number was visible in the background. "It was a rookie mistake," Porter admitted, recalling the youthful digital negligence that quickly spiraled.

His sister urged him to delete it, but by then, the damage was done. Within minutes, the screenshot had been captured 500 times and went viral on NBA Twitter (now X.com), racking up over 30 million views. Silver had to change his number shortly after—and Porter jokes that maybe everyone got the new one except him.

Now dealing with his own private information leak, Porter didn't get a chance to personally apologize until the Nuggets won the 2023 championship and Silver presented him with his ring. Despite everything, Porter says the commissioner took it in stride. "He's hilarious," Porter added, though he still wonders if that rookie slip-up cost him an All-Star berth.
