In the fast-paced world of college football recruiting, sometimes you just know when you've found the right fit. For quarterback Gary Chatman, that moment came sooner than expected—and it was all about Auburn.

The talented signal-caller from Snellville, Georgia's Brookwood High School had been committed to Wake Forest for about six weeks before deciding to reopen his recruitment earlier this week. But instead of dragging out the process, Chatman moved quickly. He had already found his new home.

Auburn entered the picture with serious interest in late March, and the Tigers wasted no time making an impression. Chatman visited campus on April 16, received an offer just six days later, and returned for a second trip on May 1. That second visit sealed the deal.

"When I went back up there for my second visit, I just loved everything about it," Chatman told Rivals. "I loved the coaches and the environment… that's what led to my decision. I knew when I left that visit that I was going to commit to Auburn."

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound quarterback quickly developed a strong connection with the coaching staff, particularly quarterbacks coach Joel Gordon. Gordon made Chatman a priority from day one, and that personal attention paid off.

"He's a great guy, and you can tell he loves football," Chatman said of Gordon. "Coach Gordon has been around some great players, he has developed some great quarterbacks, and he knows how to teach and develop. He has been around Brock Purdy and Byrum Brown—that is elite talent. He came out to see me in April, then again in May, and we are developing a great relationship."

Head coach Alex Golesh also left a lasting impression. Chatman took the time to ask other staff members why they chose Auburn, and the answers were unanimous.

"I asked the staff why they came to Auburn… and they all had positive things to say about Coach Golesh," Chatman said. "When I sat down with him, I knew that's a guy I'd love to play for. He is smart, he has energy, and he wants to win. I like what I know about Coach Golesh."

Beyond the coaches, the atmosphere at Auburn played a huge role in Chatman's decision. From the campus to the community, everything felt right.

"It is all positive around Auburn," he said. "There are just good vibes everywhere. Even being out in the community, people were showing love to the coaches. Auburn has great fans, and there is a lot of love around there."

Walking away from his commitment to Wake Forest wasn't an easy choice, but Chatman knew it was the right one. With his recruitment now firmly closed, the future is clear: Gary Chatman is an Auburn Tiger, and he's ready to get to work.
