AEW Superstar Will Ospreay Says He’s Already Peaked as a Wrestler?

In a candid revelation that has sent ripples through the wrestling world, AEW superstar Will Ospreay has admitted that his absolute peak inside the ring may already be behind him—and it happened years ago, long before most American fans ever saw him perform.

While many fans and pundits currently consider Ospreay the best wrestler on the planet, the 32-year-old Englishman recently shared a surprisingly honest perspective. In an interview with Forbes, Ospreay reflected on his legendary run in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), where he built his reputation as one of the industry's finest talents, winning multiple top titles and delivering classic matches that became the stuff of wrestling lore.

"In 2019, I felt like at that time I was the best in the world," Ospreay said. "I felt like I was at my peak in a weird way. But I do believe my peak was probably during the COVID era, which f***in sucks."

Since joining AEW in 2023, Ospreay has continued to maintain the high standard he set overseas. He's already stamped his place in All Elite Wrestling history with several amazing matches over the past three years, even in a promotion known for legendary bouts since its 2019 inception. Yet despite earning multiple five-star match ratings, Ospreay believes AEW fans have never seen—and likely never will see—the absolute best version of himself.

You have to respect that level of honesty. It's rare for any high-level athlete, especially one still in his prime years, to openly admit that their best days might be in the rearview mirror. But after a long career built on death-defying moves and following a double fusion neck surgery last year, recapturing that exact level of athleticism is a tall order.

However, this doesn't mean Ospreay can't still be the best wrestler on the planet. He has many more legendary matches ahead of him—they'll just have to be approached in a different way. As any athlete knows, evolution is part of greatness, and Ospreay's willingness to adapt could make his next chapter just as compelling as the last.
