The Las Vegas Aces have made a significant move to bolster their roster, signing free agent guard Chennedy Carter. After a year away from the WNBA, Carter brings her elite scoring talent back to the league, a skill set the two-time defending champions are eager to harness.

Carter, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2020 draft, is a proven bucket-getter with a career average of 14.6 points per game. Her offensive prowess was on full display during her collegiate career at Texas A&M, where she was a nearly unstoppable force. For an Aces team looking to maintain its offensive firepower, adding a player of Carter's caliber could be a major boost.

However, the signing comes with notable context. Carter's WNBA journey has been marked by both brilliance and controversy, including a high-profile hard foul on Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark in 2024 that drew widespread attention. Her past also includes a "conduct detrimental to the team" designation during her tenure with the Atlanta Dream.

At just 28 years old, Carter's prime athletic years are ahead of her. The Aces are betting that in their championship culture, she can channel her competitive fire solely into her performance on the court. If she can provide consistent scoring and maturity off the bench, she could be the x-factor that helps Vegas pursue another title.

This move undoubtedly catches the eye of the league's growing fanbase, particularly those who follow Caitlin Clark, setting the stage for compelling matchups when the Aces and Fever meet. It's a high-risk, high-reward signing that adds another fascinating layer to the upcoming WNBA season.
