The Florida State Seminoles are on the hunt for a dynamic running back to anchor their 2027 recruiting class, and all eyes are on four-star prospect Gary Walker. Hailing from Fairburn, Georgia, this explosive talent has been on FSU's radar since October 2025, when they first extended a scholarship offer. New running backs coach Kam Martin has been instrumental in keeping the Seminoles in the mix, with Walker visiting campus twice this year. But in the high-stakes world of college football recruiting, the tides can shift quickly.

Enter the Clemson Tigers. The ACC rival has surged to the front of Walker's recruitment, picking up four key predictions—including one from On3's Steve Wiltfong—that suggest the Tigers are now the clear frontrunners. For FSU, this is a tough blow in a heated conference battle, especially after losing another top target, Ty Keys, to the Miami Hurricanes just last week.

Walker is no ordinary recruit. Ranked as the No. 158 overall player and the No. 8 running back in the country by Rivals, he's also the 17th-best prospect from a talent-rich Georgia. His junior season at Creekside High School was nothing short of spectacular, as he powered his team to a state championship with 178 carries for 1,669 yards and 20 touchdowns in 14 games—averaging an impressive 9.4 yards per carry and 119.2 yards per game.

The Seminoles aren't out of the race just yet. Walker has an official visit scheduled with FSU on June 19, but Clemson gets first dibs with a visit on May 29, which could potentially end the recruitment early. If Walker does choose the Tigers, FSU will pivot to other promising options like Brayden Tyson, Jayden Miles, and Marquis Fennell. For now, though, the battle for this blue-chip back is shaping up to be one of the most compelling storylines in the ACC recruiting landscape.
