The ACC is taking its football show on the road again, and this time it's heading north of the border. Following a string of international matchups that have become a staple of the college football calendar, the conference has announced that Syracuse and Wake Forest will face off in Toronto during Week 0 of the 2027 season.
This isn't the ACC's first foray into global play. The league kicked off the 2024 season with a thrilling Dublin showdown between Florida State and Georgia Tech, and North Carolina is set to open the 2026 campaign in Ireland against TCU. Virginia and NC State are also slated to take their rivalry to Rio de Janeiro in 2026. Now, the conference is adding a Canadian chapter to its growing international story.
The Syracuse-Wake Forest matchup, originally scheduled to take place in Winston-Salem, will instead be held at BMO Field—home to MLS's Toronto FC and the CFL's Toronto Argonauts. It's a venue that knows how to host a big game, and this one promises to bring all the pageantry of college football to a new audience.
"We are thrilled to bring ACC football to an international stage in Toronto," said ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips. "This conference game represents an exciting opportunity to showcase our student-athletes and our member institutions, as well as put on full display the energy of college football to a new and diverse audience." Phillips highlighted the conference's commitment to growing the game globally, building on successful events in Dublin and the upcoming game in Brazil.
For Syracuse, the trip to Toronto feels like a home game of sorts. "Opening the 2027 season in Toronto is an exciting opportunity for Syracuse football and our fans," said Syracuse Athletics Director John Wildhack. "Partnering with Wake Forest and ESPN Events for this game created the unique chance for us to headline Week 0 while providing a destination game for fans to visit a world-class city just four hours from campus."
With the ACC continuing to embrace international play, fans can expect more cross-border excitement in the years to come. Whether you're packing your orange gear for Syracuse or your black and gold for Wake Forest, this Week 0 matchup in Toronto is shaping up to be a can't-miss event—and a great excuse to add some new game-day gear to your closet.
