The SEC Baseball Tournament is about to get a major upgrade, and it's great news for players, coaches, and fans alike. Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) technology is officially coming to Hoover, Alabama, later this month, making the SEC the first college conference to implement this game-changing system.

If you've tuned into MLB games this spring, you've likely seen ABS in action. Teams can challenge pitch calls—whether they think it's a ball or a strike—with a set number of challenges per game. In the majors, you can challenge as many times as you want, as long as you don't lose two in the first nine innings. Extra innings? Each team gets one challenge per inning, regardless of what happened earlier.

The SEC version will be slightly different but just as strategic. Coaches will have three ABS challenges per game, and if you win a challenge, you keep it. Extra innings bring a bonus challenge if you've used all yours. But here's the key: only the pitcher, catcher, or hitter can request an ABS challenge, and they have to do it within two to three seconds. Untimely challenges won't be granted, so quick thinking is a must.

This is a huge step forward for college baseball. The SEC has long been a powerhouse conference, and adding ABS brings a new layer of precision to the game. For Kentucky fans, this is especially exciting. The Bat Cats are currently 29-16 overall and 11-13 in SEC play, sitting in 11th place with two conference series left. They're heading to Florida this weekend before hosting Arkansas next weekend. With the SEC Tournament kicking off on Tuesday, May 19th, every game counts as they look to climb the standings.

Whether you're a die-hard SEC fan or just love seeing innovation in baseball, ABS is a welcome addition. It's all about getting the calls right, and that makes the game better for everyone.
