The quarterback carousel is spinning once again, and this time, it's pointing toward Pittsburgh. Free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers is reportedly set to visit the Pittsburgh Steelers this weekend, according to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport. The visit is expected to kick off on Friday and extend through the weekend, signaling a potential major move for the storied franchise.
Rapoport reports that, according to his sources, Rodgers is likely to don the black and gold this season. "A deal is not done & there is always caution until things are signed. But Rodgers' plan is to play for PIT & these are steps toward that end," Rapoport stated.
This development follows a strategic move by the Steelers at the end of April, when they placed a rare right-of-first-refusal tender on Rodgers. As ESPN's Adam Schefter explained, this allows Rodgers to accept a 10% raise from his previous year's salary, while the Steelers retain the right to match any offer sheet he signs with another team. The league memo, shared by Schefter, further clarifies that if Rodgers doesn't sign before July 22—or the first scheduled day of training camp—the Steelers will hold exclusive negotiating rights.
Rodgers became a free agent after completing a one-year stint with the Steelers, and since then, team leaders have been vocal about wanting him back. There was hope a deal would be finalized before the NFL Draft, but that didn't materialize. Instead, the Steelers selected Penn State standout Drew Allar in the third round, adding to a quarterback room that now includes Will Howard and Mason Rudolph.
For Steelers fans, this visit could mark a turning point. Rodgers, a future Hall of Famer, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record that could elevate Pittsburgh's offense. As the team continues to build its roster, all eyes will be on this weekend's meetings to see if the pieces fall into place for a blockbuster signing.
