After losing two of three games in Baltimore, the Yankees have a day off on Thursday before playing a Subway Series against the Mets this weekend at Citi Field.

It was a tough day at the office for Anthony Volpe, but Yankees captain Aaron Judge made sure the young shortstop knew he had his back.

After a 7-0 loss to the Orioles in Baltimore, Volpe's return to the majors didn't go as planned. The 24-year-old went 0-for-3 with a strikeout and committed an error on a routine grounder, drawing boos from Yankees fans in the crowd of 14,521. To make matters worse, Volpe was noticeably absent from the clubhouse during the 15-minute media window after the game, leaving reporters to wonder if he was grabbing a quiet meal or already heading to the bus.

But Judge, ever the leader, stepped up to the plate with some blunt advice for his teammate. When asked what his message was to Volpe—who was called up from Triple-A Scranton on Tuesday to fill in for the injured Jose Caballero (fractured right middle finger)—the slugger didn't mince words.

"Just take care of business," Judge said. "There's been a lot of questions, a lot of stuff going on with that, circling with the media, but the biggest thing is block out the noise. There's going to be a lot of noise with it."

It's been a whirlwind season for Volpe, who lost his starting job earlier this month and was optioned back to the minors before this emergency call-up. With Caballero expected to return from the IL in about 10 days, Volpe's time in the Bronx might be short-lived again.

For now, the Yankees have a much-needed day off Thursday before diving into a Subway Series against the Mets this weekend at Citi Field. It's a chance for the team to reset after dropping two of three in Baltimore, and for Volpe to shake off a rough outing with some veteran wisdom ringing in his ears.
