The stage is set for a historic 2025/26 Ninja A-League Grand Final, as Melbourne City and Wellington Phoenix both powered through their semi-finals to earn a shot at glory.

Premiers Melbourne City were first to book their ticket, edging out Melbourne Victory 1-0 in the second leg to seal a 2-0 aggregate win. The star of the show? Seventeen-year-old midfielder Shelby McMahon, who lit up the pitch with a stunning 34th-minute half volley that left fans in awe.

Victory pushed hard to claw back, with Holly Furphy forcing a diving save from Malena Mieres and Nikki Flannery firing just over late on. But City held firm, with Alana Jančevski even rattling the crossbar in added time. It’s a sixth Grand Final appearance for the four-time champions—a testament to their dominance in the league.

Across the Tasman, history was brewing. Wellington Phoenix, under the guidance of Bev Priestman, reached their first ever Grand Final after a dramatic comeback against Brisbane Roar. Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, the Nix needed something special—and they got it in front of a record crowd of 5,923 at Porirua Park.

Makala Woods was the hero, scoring a brilliant double to flip the tie on its head. Her first came just before halftime, latching onto Pia Vlok’s long ball and coolly lifting it over the advancing Chloe Lincoln. With time winding down, Brooke Nunn nearly sealed it but saw her shot loop onto the bar. Then, with just 15 seconds left, Woods thought she’d scored the winner, only for Lincoln to produce a stunning stop. But the American striker kept her composure, and the Phoenix held on to make history.

Now, all eyes turn to the Grand Final. Can Melbourne City add a fifth title to their collection, or will Wellington Phoenix cap off their fairytale run with a maiden championship? One thing’s for sure: this is a match no fan will want to miss.
