Las Vegas Aces superstar A’ja Wilson has a legitimate argument as the greatest player in WNBA history. Still not even 30 years old, Wilson has accumulated four WNBA MVP trophies and three league titles.
This offseason, following the WNBA’s transformative new collective bargaining agreement being ratified, Wilson a three-year $5 million supermax contract that will keep her in the desert for the foreseeable future.
On Wednesday, at the Aces’ media day, Wilson revealed what motivates her to keep dominating.
“The real answer? I like making people mad. I like proving people wrong,” she said. “I like to let people just burn because me and my team are doing great or they never could’ve imagined me or my team in this situation. That’s the real answer. The politically correct answer? The youth. The kids make me go!”

Wilson has previously discussed her place in the WNBA’s history, while crediting others who helped get the league to where it is today.
“It wasn’t a hit at me, because I’m going to do me regardless,” Wilson told Time. “I’m going to win this MVP, I’ll win a gold medal, y’all can’t shake my résumé. It was more so, let’s not lose the recipe. Let’s not lose the history. It was erased for a minute. And I don’t like that. Because we have tons of women that have been through the grimiest of grimy things to get the league where it is today.”
